Ages Ago
"I don't care why you did it," my voice was muffled behind the visor of my helmet. I grunted loudly as I dodged an oncoming Thrax, and with a growl of anger, I punched it with my brass knuckles. The punch sent the Thrax sliding across the grass between myself and Deoradhan, coming to a halt at his feet.
I have been running into this tank of a man for weeks now, and every meeting has been an unpleasant one because of his actions! He is the same Deoradhan that stole a Boss's kill from me last week. He is the same Deoradhan that had practically dove from a cliff, barreling down over me, and killing the boss I needed the week before, and the same one who just took another kill from me without a single apology!
"Look, doll, the boss was in the way," Mabon Deoradhan didn't even look down as he aimed his gun at the Thrax I had just tossed toward him. A single shot to the head and it went lifeless. "It isn't my fault you're so small. I couldn't see you!"
The sarcasm in his voice was one thing, but the way he shrugged then waved at me as if my size was the reason, was something that just made me boil as a woman! How dare he! Before I could even make a comment or come up with a pithy remark, he saluted and moved out toward the west. Part of me felt like going after him, and the other part of me felt like shooting him in the back! I sighed as he disappeared over the horizon. "You don't even have a gun drawn, Tea, what the hell did you mean by that thought? Besides, you wouldn't shoot him anyway...you're more of a healer."
I move carefully and pull out a tissue extractor to start taking varied specimens from the bodies around me. I am careful and precise as I do this, and I always keep an eye out for trouble. "I should keep an eye out for him!" The sarcasm in my voice makes me shake my head. "Why do I even let a brainless tank bother me, any way?" I pack up the vials of tissue and pack my tool carefully. Instead of my brass knuckles, I pull out my injector gun. Time to work off some of my frustrations!
"From now on I'm going to keep my eyes open for that...Mabon Deoradhan," I shift with a clumsy like grace that most find odd when they watch me in battle. "Let's see how he likes his missions interrupted." I study the area that Deoradhan had moved off in, and start tracking him. It's not like he's hard to track, look at these prints, so easy to see!
I pause a moment, the sounds of battle are near. With a cautious trot, I head over a slight hill and glance down into the flat plains ahead of me. Just near, Deoradhan stands, battling another boss of this region. With a careful aim, I wait, and just at the right moment....I pull the trigger of my injector gun. The air hisses as the stealthy whoosh of the dart shoots out at subsonic speed. The aim was good, and the Boss quickly falls to the ground as my kill.
I stand then, and watch below as Deoradhan pauses, looking up toward me just before he is engulfed in the mass of Thrax around him. I give Deoradhan a salute and turn to head back the way I came. "How does that feel, tank boy?"
Something in the way the Thrax are sounding in battle makes me pause, and I turn to see more ships landing. They unload more Thrax, Caretaker, and other enemies that are headed directly toward Deoradhan. With a sigh, I wait, hoping the new arrivals get distracted, but of course they don't. No, fate would not be nice to me for this, after all. Damn karma. I roll my eyes and move closer. I take my shots carefully, picking out the larger foes to aid Deoradhan in his fight.
When I feel that I have done enough, I heal him swiftly and then rush back up toward the way I had come, not wanting to spend anymore time with the man than I had already done. As I turn back to make sure he made it out of battle, he is staring up at me from a pile of bodies. I wonder what we would do if we could see our faces? Would we be more personal or less?
With the same perplexed feeling he's probably having, I rush off to do more missions....and hoping to never run into the man again.
